Collisions and Near-Collisions for Reduced-Round Tiger

چکیده

We describe a collision-finding attack on 16 rounds of the Tiger hash function requiring the time for about 2 compression function invocations. This extends to a collision-finding attack on 17 rounds of the Tiger hash function in time of about 2 compression function invocations. Another attack generates circular near-collisions, for 20 rounds of Tiger with work less than that of 2 compression function invocations. Since Tiger has only 24 rounds, these attacks may raise some questions about the security of Tiger. In developing these attacks, we adapt the ideas of message modification attacks and neutral bits, developed in the analysis of MD4 family hashes, to a completely different hash function design.

Practical Near-Collisions for Reduced Round Blake, Fugue, Hamsi and JH

A hash function is near-collision resistant, if it is hard to find two messages with hash values that differ in only a small number of bits. In this study, we use hill climbing methods to evaluate the nearcollision resistance of some of the round SHA-3 candidates. We practi cally obtained (i) 184/256-bit near-collision for the 2-round compression function of Blake-32; (ii) 192/256-bit near-col...

Preimages for Reduced-Round Tiger

The cryptanalysis of the cryptographic hash function Tiger has, until now, focussed on finding collisions. In this paper we describe a preimage attack on the compression function of Tiger-12, i.e., Tiger reduced to 12 rounds out of 24, with a complexity of 2 compression function evaluations. We show how this can be used to construct second preimages with complexity 2 and first preimages with co...

Near-Collisions of SHA-0

In this paper we find two near-collisions of the full compression function of SHA-0, in which up to 142 of the 160 bits of the output are equal. We also find many full collisions of 65-round reduced SHA-0, which is a large improvement to the best previous result of 35 rounds. We use the very surprising fact that the messages have many neutral bits, some of which do not affect the differences fo...

Update on Tiger

Tiger is a cryptographic hash function with a 192-bit hash value which was proposed by Anderson and Biham in 1996. At FSE 2006, Kelsey and Lucks presented a collision attack on Tiger reduced to 16 (out of 24) rounds with complexity of about 2. Furthermore, they showed that a pseudo-near-collision can be found for a variant of Tiger with 20 rounds with complexity of about 2. In this article, we ...

Round-Reduced Collisions of BLAKE-32

In this paper, we investigate the security of SHA-3 candidate BLAKE. We analyse the propagation of differences that are rotation-invariant in the internal function G. We show that by using them, it is possible to obtain near-collisions for the compression function reduced to 4 rounds out of 10. We also discuss the security of some variants of BLAKE.
